The Information Systems of the future will be distributed, heterogeneous, and open. They will require the integration of five key technologies: databases, multimedia, object orientation, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications. The talk will explain the contribution of these technologies to the vision of the future. Key technical challenges and open research issues will be discussed.
