Database Basics

Database Technology arose because of a need to maintain within a computer system an accurate model of the world of interest outside the computer system. This relational paradigm gave a new focus and a platform for further advances into object orientation, deductive and active systems, and distributed systems. Database Systems are now an essential component of any business, government, or social enterprise; indeed, without this technology, the world's financial, transport, manufacturing, agricultural, and leisure industries would be paralysed. This presentation will cover the earlier database technology including relational, underlining successes and problems.
