received a BSc degree in Computing Science from Aberdeen University in 1986 and a PhD in Object-Oriented Databases from the same institution in 1989. He works as a lecturer in Computer Science at Heriot-Watt University. His research interests address the extension of database technologies in different ways. He is co-author of two books, one on Object-Oriented Databases and one on Database Programming Languages (in press).
